About the Event
3 Class Series- 2 of 3
Come join our special guest & friend Courtney Purcell, a Theravadan Buddhist Practitioner, for a special series of lectures on cultivating lasting inner peace this New Year through understanding & applying primary components of the buddha's teachings.
Description of the 3 Class Series:
In northern India, nearly 2,600 years ago, the Buddha began teaching an eightfold method by which people could remove all suffering from their lives. By this method, stress and dissatisfaction could be replaced with peacefulness, compassion, and contentment. Gentleness, tolerance, and deep happiness would come bumbling to the surface.
This eightfold method, which the Buddha taught must be developed in full in order to deeply experience its profound benefits, can be broken down into three primary components: virtue, concentration, and wisdom.
In this program we’ll be discussing each of these three components in turn, and exploring the practical and immediate ways in which we can begin to develop them.
Training the Heart: Concentration
In this week’s program, we’ll be discussing the Buddha’s teachings on using skillful effort, mindfulness and concentration to stabilize the mind and create the conditions in which deep wisdom can begin to arise.
